April 13, 2025 – – – Cory Hedgecock claimed his second Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series (SAS) triumph of 2025 on Friday night, April 11 at Penton Raceway in Lafayette, Alabama! Cory knocked down the quickest lap in Group A during the qualifying session to earn the pole position for the 40-lap Sammy Cooper Classic. After leading the first couple of circuits, Cory ultimately took the point for good on lap fourteen and pocketed $7,000 for the win over runner-up Dillon Tidmore, Michael Leach, Wil Herrington, and Bo Slay!
On Saturday evening, April 12, the SAS doubleheader finale took Cory Hedgecock Motorsports to Winder-Barrow Speedway in Winder, Georgia. Cory stopped the clock second fastest in Group A during time trials and later started the $5,000 to win headliner from the inside of the second row. During the course of the 50-lapper, the Loudon, Tennessee ace battled for the second spot early before slipping over the cushion and ultimately finishing sixth at the checkered flag behind only victor Dillon Tidmore, David McCoy, Jordy Nipper, Trae Kirk, and Chris Woods. Complete results from both weekend shows can be viewed online at www.sasdirt.com.
“We were just a little tight early in the race and (Dillon) Tidmore was able to bend around that bottom and took off there,” quoted the winning Hedgecock in victory lane last Friday at Penton Raceway. “I was hoping the racetrack would kind of clean back up and come to us and thankfully it did. I really appreciate Tidmore and everyone out there for racing me clean. We had a good night – it has probably been seven or eight years since I’ve been to Penton Raceway. The place has improved a bunch and I definitely want to come back. I’ve got to thank all of my great sponsors and everyone that is behind our racing program, it takes an army and everyone on this car makes it all possible.”
The #23 team is set to invade a pair of Volunteer State venues this upcoming weekend with the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series. On Friday night, April 18, Cory will vie for the $10,053 top prize at the nearby I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tennessee. The doubleheader weekend will then conclude on Saturday evening, April 19 in the 5th edition of the Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial at the bad-fast Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tennessee. A $21,000 payday will be up for grabs at “The Taz,” along with several lucrative bonuses. Both Spring Nationals showdowns will be broadcast LIVE to subscribers of FloRacing.
