Cory Hedgecock snags 10th win with ACAS at Smoky Mountain

Cory Hedgecock tallied his tenth win of the season Friday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn.

Driving the E-Z-GO No. 23 Pace Performance/ Budget Transmissions/ Rocket Chassis/ Eagle Racing Engine Late Model, Hedgecock led all 30 laps of the Topless Outlaw Series feature to earn a $3,000 payday.

“Our Topless Outlaw entry was flawless on Friday night. I wish we’d had some more success in the other classes but that’s racing, we’ll live to fight another day,” commented Hedgecock. “Hopefully the weather holds out for this weekend’s big event at All-Tech, I’m looking forward to redemption.”

Cory topped the 23-car field in time trials, which positioned him on the pole for the main event. Blasting into the lead on the opening lap, Hedgecock led wire-to-wire to secure his fourth Topless Outlaw Series win of the season. With 34 Southern All-Star Racing Series entries on hand, Hedgecock locked his spot into the opening night feature with the fourth fastest time in his qualifying group. Rolling off seventh, Cory cut a left-rear tire on the opening lap that brought an early end to his evening.

In a stout field of 45 American Crate All-Star Series (ACAS) entries, Hedgecock locked his spot into the main event with a heat race victory. With $2,000 on the line, Cory broke into a podium spot early and was challenging for the win when mechanical issues struck on lap 28, dropping him back to 19th when the checkered flag flew.

On Saturday night for the $7,000-to-win, Southern All-Star Racing Series season-finale, Cory posted a third place finish in his heat, which positioned him ninth on the starting grid for the main event. Running into trouble early, Hedgecock was an early retiree from the 50-lapper on lap 21.

Following the 15th fastest time in a field of 34 ACAS entries on Saturday, Hedgecock jumped up one spot in his heat race to place second behind Jake Teague. Starting the $3,000-to-win A-Main in 12th, Cory faded one spot to finish 13th.
