Eighth place finish with Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at SMS

Cory Hedgecock made the short trip to Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) on Saturday night pulling double duty for the Mountain Moonshine Classic. In a field of 39 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, Cory followed up the fifth fastest time in his group with a third place finish in his heat. Earning the ninth-starting position for the $15,000-to-win A-Main, Hedgecock was up to fourth early in the 60-lapper but faded late to place eighth. (Michael Moats photo)

In the Crate Late Model ranks, Hedgecock secured his spot into the main event with the 12th fastest lap overall in qualifying. With $1,200 on the line, Cory was involved in a pair of incidents in the early going that forced him to retire from the 20-lap affair on lap 17.
