Top-10 finish in Southern Nationals opener at Beckley
Competing in the opening two rounds of the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals miniseries, Cory Hedgecock trekked to Beckley Motor Speedway (Beckley, W.Va.) on Friday afternoon to pilot his Eagle Race Engines No. 23 Late Model.
With a fourth-place finish in his heat race pinning him on the eighth row for the opener, Hedgecock ran as high as seventh before a flat tire on lap 47 dropped him to the tail. He salvaged a 10th-place finish in the final six circuits.
Back in action on Sunday after Mother Nature shifted Saturday’s event at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.) back a day, Cory held onto third in his heat after breaking a transmission. Starting the $10,053-to-win A-Main in eighth, Hedgecock was an early retiree during a lap-47 caution while running sixth.
